Imagine you're sitting at your kitchen table, coffee in hand, ready to take the leap into entrepreneurship. You’ve decided to start your own business and you’re thinking about forming an LLC (Limited Liability Company). You’ve got a name picked out, and now you’re wondering, “How long is this going to take?”

Let’s follow the journey of three friends—Mike, Emily, and Jack—each in a different state, as they navigate the LLC registration process.

Mike sighs—everything really is bigger (and slower) in Texas.

Emily is in New York, the city that never sleeps. But when it comes to processing LLCs, it seems like the state government might be taking a nap. Emily submits her LLC filing online and is told that online approvals are immediate. If she had chosen to file by mail, she would have faced a wait time of up to 8 months! Thankfully, she doesn’t have to wait that long, and she’s relieved when her LLC is approved the same day.

Jack’s California Dream
Jack is in California, where everything seems to move at its own pace. He files his LLC documents online and finds out that it will take about 8 business days to process. If he had mailed his documents, the wait would be the same, but he’s glad he chose the online route. Jack knows that California’s beautiful beaches can be relaxing, but he’s not in the mood to wait too long to get his business started.

Day 3-15: The Waiting Game

Now comes the waiting game. Each of our friends watches their email inbox like a hawk, eagerly anticipating the moment they can officially say they own an LLC.

Mike’s wait would be the longest, but he keeps busy by setting up with a expedited services.Now his website is going on and he is planning his marketing strategy.

Emily’s journey is the shortest. Her LLC was approved the same day she filed, and she’s already making sales and growing her business.
